Just in time for National Pollinator Week (June 17-23), South Middle School celebrated the grand opening of the seventh-grade Pollinator Garden. After a year of hard work and learning about the environment, Team Hero, Team Voyager, and Team Wonder unveiled three raised garden beds in front of SMS that will serve as a beautiful haven for local pollinators.
Seventh-grade classes attended a culminating celebration on June 18 that included student poetry, art, and music performances. Speakers shared a common theme that even the smallest actions—like the smallest insects—can have a huge impact on the world around us. Thank you to everyone who helped with this year-long project, especially the SMS PTA for supplying the raised beds, seeds and plants, as well as the SMS technology classes for assembling the raised beds. SMS is excited to see how the gardens will grow over the summer!
